TILT from their 1980 recording session, is a milestone whose significance due to the lack of an official release has never been sufficiently understood and appreciated. This is the very beginning of the band’s studio experiences, a band who a few years later became one of the most known of the Polish domestic music scene. TILT, along with DEADLOCK and KRYZYS, were one of the key musical formations in the first wave of punk scene in Poland. They were a part of a cultural subversion. They created a space filled with a community which could boldly express itself and propose its own artistic forms regardless of external and internal limitations. Creativity and having a means of self expression allowed people to escape the expectations and control of a gloomy political regime. The formation of subsequent music groups, the first Polish-language zines, leaflets, graphics, collages, performances and other forms of artistic expression, all formed an undeniable movement, which at the turn of the decade between the 1970s and 1980s, initiated the culture of what is referred to as third circuit – underground network for the distribution of information while the second circulation had consisted of political opposition to the communist party. The first stage in the history of the band TILT happened in the period between 1979-1980. Initially, the band was formed by Tomek Lipiński, Tomek Szczeciński and Jacek Lenartowicz. Jacek had previously played in the legendary DEADLOCK from Gdańsk. Before end of this chapter of history of the band, Pyza joined them and she was playing the keyboards. From the very beginning, the band had a broad artistic vision, and their work was supported and promoted by significant representatives of the Polish avant-garde and modern art scenes, such as Andrzej Zuzak (theatre, situationism, Agencja Sztuki Alternatywnej), Piotr Rypson ("Post" fanzine, art historian, curator) and Henryk Gajewski (Galeria Post Remont, independent cassette label, "Post" fanzine). After the group disbanded, Tomek Lipiński and Tomek Szczeciński co-founded and were involved the supergroup BRYGADA KRYZYS with members of KRYZYS. Luter and Pyza were active in the dada-postpunk band BIAŁE WULKANY. TILT, on the other hand, would return with a new line-up in 1983 and would continue to function, with longer and shorter breaks from time to time, for the next several decades. The album "On the Border line” which we are presenting here, contains four songs whose sound was influenced by the transformation occurring amidst the first wave of punk rock into what became known as "post-punk." The songs were recorded during a two-hour session at Studio S1 of Polish Radio during the first months of 1980. Additionally, the album includes an acoustic version of the song "Photo is photo” which was recorded on a four-track at Tomek Lipiński's house. Songs from these sessions appeared in classic Henryk Gajewski's films, "Tilt Back” and “Passenger”. The studio session from the Polish Radio recording was never released on vinyl, but these four songs did appear on one of the very the first release containing punk music that was ever released in Poland: the cassette compilation "First Polish New Wave". The whole first side of that cassette was filled with TILT recordings, both studio and live, songs which were recorded during the 1st New Wave Festival in Kołobrzeg (the second side was filled with other bands who had performed there - Deadlock, Kryzys, KSU, Poerocks and Kanał). Music presented on this record have finally a chance to sound the way they were supposed to, in their full splendor (and on the most noble format). Reconstructed and mastered by Studio As One. Four decades later, this important piece in the history of music in Poland will undoubtedly be rediscovered by some and heard by many for the first time. This record represents an absolute pearl from the times when punk/wave music was first forming in Poland just before political turbulence and military junta of 1981. It was one of the few groups operating in Poland whose character clearly indicated inspiration from British peace-punk. Echoes of Poison Girls, Crass or Flux Of Pink Indians penetrated their own view of music and message. Another characteristic element that distinguished the band was its composition, which differed from the standard of the time. In the first half of the 1980s, there were only a few punk or post-punk bands with women in the line-up (including FORNIT, ATAK, TILT, BIALE WULKANY, BIKINI, KONTROLA W., DZIECI KAPITAN KLOSS and the aforementioned KBW). For many people, the performances of ZOMBARDOWANA LALECZKA with the vocalist Gertruda were the first contact with strong female vocals in a native punk band The group’s message was no less important than the music. It was a direct protest against war, militarism and violence. As reality shows, today, unfortunately, it will again sound exceptionally up-to-date and shocking. The band’s poignant lyrics and music were complemented by graphic accents created by them – collages, posters or the band’s fanzine distributed at concerts. Unfortunately, despite the huge potential, the band never managed to enter the studio. They did not live to see any record or cassette release, and the only trace they left behind was the cassette compilation “Róbrege ’85”, which included the song “Children die first”. The same number, registered during the performance in Jarocin ’85, was used in Piotr Łazarkiewicz’s film “Wave”. Both festivals were certainly the most important events in the history of the band, and thanks to them, the memory of the group had the opportunity to survive despite the lack of releases. A photo session for one of the first issues of the “Wprost” magazine from 1983 is also worth noting. In addition to the aforementioned cassette compilation and recording in the legendary film “Wave”, poor quality concert recordings were also circulating among the fans. This release double fills an important gap in the history of punk in the 80s. The band Zbombardowana Laleczka not only debuts on the album, but also after 37 years, their full material will sound in good quality, previously unavailable, for the first time. Recordings recorded during a performance on the big stage (for which the band qualified without sending an application cassette!) are 95% recordings from the console, and with the transfer from the original reel-to-reel tape and mastering in the invaluable Studio As One, the whole thing sounds great and we are sure,that this disc will give the band, their rightful place in the history of the Eastern Bloc punk movement. Due to the historical value, we decided to include the band’s full performance on the album, also with the song interrupted by the organizers due to fights in front of the stage. After about an hour’s break, the band managed to present the entire programme. Traditionally, like the rest of the series of punk recordings from the festival in Jarocin presented by Warsaw Pact Records/Archiwum Trasa W-Z, the album is released with a gatefold cover and this time with two additional booklets: one with the history of the band, photos, collages and graphics and the other with a faithful reproduction of a zine released by the band in the 1980s. Outro 下記、レーベルインフォです。 H.C.P. stands for Hard Core Poznan, active shortly in the years 1988-1989 but important for growing DIY hardcore scene in Poland of the late 80s. It is a document which enhances the heritage of the new hard core wave in Poland which appeared in this period . H.C.P was the first band from this new crop of bands which managed to do a vinyl release, thanks to the Swiss label Resistance Productions. It is these songs from the legendary "Anti Drugs" EP as well as the songs originally released on the split tapes with Chaos and Apatia, appeared on their discography "Positive State of Mentality 1989" LP. All in all, 19 songs of fast and aggressive hardcore punk (or as they were called back in those days - HC/Thrash) with lyrics dealing with the dawn of the communist days in Poland, with state violence, militarism, nuclear energy or growing neo-fascism. Referring to this last issue song called "Mlodzi faszysci" ("Young fascists") - has become the most known song in the history of the band, one which has been cover later by many other bands of The Polish Hc/Punk scene. In spite of all these problems in this difficult transition period, the band never stopped showing optimism and youthful drive, never stopped appealing for a change of values and positive awareness. The band's positive and progressive message has been also mirrored in their straight edge philosophy - the band has been one of the first ones in Poland connected to the straight edge. The end of H.C.P.'s chapter marked a beginning of Apatia and a new and significant period on the Polish scene for the next twenty-something years. HCP's discography LP is coming out with a 28-page booklet including the lyrics, an interview with all the band members, memories of Pablo from Resistance Productions and many archive photos and flyers. Along with bands like SPERMBIRDS or HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH, they were one of the first German bands playing "US-influenced hardcore", directly inspired by bands like NEGATIVE APPROACH, MINOR THREAT, FAITH and VOID. Being from a small town and in response to bringing US styled hardcore and aesthetics to the German scene, the band was met with with rejection and criticism by traditional Deutschpunkers. At the same time they were able to create vibrant scene around their hometown with regular hardcore shows featuring local and international acts. The band’s shows were a template for the next decades of hardcore shows to come, with a focus on fun, stage dives and all within a non-violent atmosphere. Additionally, Skeezicks bassist Armin ran X-mist Records where the band's vinyl outputs were released. To this day, this label is one of the strongest institutions for independent music. During their time Skeezicks managed to play in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and Denmark, release one LP and one 7” and appeared on various vinyl and tape compilations. Their impact on the hardcore punk scene in Germany is unquestionable and they became an integral part of the 80's European hardcore scene. This discography double album contains their full length “Selling out!” LP, the “There’s a charlie brown in everyone of us!” 7”, compilation tracks (“Smelling just another bad breath”, “Trust-Vinyl Compilation”, “How will you know what this record sounds like if you don’t listen to it”), the “We make noise...” demo and also two unreleased tracks intended to appear on Hageland Hardcore Records compilation. These tracks were lost for many years and were found just recently. The accompanying booklet contains photos by Anne Ulrich and Theun K, flyers, band lyrics, and also liner notes by Helge Schreiber (Network Of Friends), Flo (Heartfirst Records), Marc Hanou (B.T.D., Betray, Birds Of A Feather) and Christian Unsinn (Take It Back Records).
